The renovation of the pedestrian bridge on Chotieschauer Weg/Obermühlweg in Hersbruck has officially begun. How n-land.de reported, the replacement building is being funded by the Free State of Bavaria with 700,000 euros. This funding comes from the Bavarian Municipal Transport Financing Act (BayGVFG) and was promised by the Bavarian Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter.
The bridge is an essential element of the regional infrastructure. It connects the high school, the school and sports center and various leisure facilities. The total cost of the project is around 1.54 million euros, with around 891,000 euros recognized as eligible for funding. The approved 700,000 euros will significantly reduce the burden on the city's budget.
Project course and construction time
The replacement construction began in May 2025, initially with the construction of a temporary bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. This temporary bridge is expected to be in operation until mid-August 2026. After this interim solution is completed, the old bridge will be demolished and the new overpass will be built.
The project is implemented in close coordination with the government of Middle Franconia, which is also responsible for disbursing the funding. This collaboration is crucial to ensure that the various aspects of financing and the construction process run smoothly.
Financing details and application process
To apply for funding, interested parties must submit applications to the responsible district government by September 1st of the year preceding the planned start of construction at the latest government.oberbayern.bayern.de explained. If you apply for BayFAG and BayGVFG funding together, only one application is necessary. In addition, the project must be prepared in such a way that construction can begin promptly after receipt of the funding notice.
In order to successfully submit an application, various documents and evidence must be provided. This includes, among other things, a draft in accordance with the guidelines for design in road construction as well as a detailed cost calculation. The government informs the applicants whether funding is generally possible in the year in which construction is planned to begin, which forms the basis for the call for tenders for the measure.
