Altdorf fire department takes off: new rescue vehicle for real operations!

The Altdorf fire department recently put a new rescue vehicle into operation. This vehicle replaces two vehicles that have been in use since 1998: a rescue vehicle and a pioneer vehicle. The fire brigade commander Max Albert expressed his satisfaction with the first operations in which the new vehicle demonstrated its efficiency. Procurement of the new preparation vehicle not only brings modern technology, but also financial advantages, as it saves costs both in the purchase and in future maintenance.

The new rescue vehicle offers a variety of operational components that were previously distributed across two vehicles. These include, among other things, a road rescue kit for cantonal and national roads, breathing apparatus, rolling modules and oil defense material. The vehicle is also equipped with high-performance fans that can provide important services in emergency situations.

Modern equipment and security

The rescue vehicle is equipped with a modern light mast that uses LED technology and thus increases safety during nighttime operations. The light tower is powered directly from the vehicle battery, which means there is no need to use a loud generator. This not only improves the operating conditions, but also minimizes noise pollution.

The sides of the vehicle, which are designed with a motif of the national hero Wilhelm Tell, ensure an attractive look. He holds a spreader in his hand and symbolizes the fire department's operational strength and courage. The creative design comes from the “Garage for Visual Communication” in Flüelen.

Ceremonial handover and financing

The ceremonial handover of the new device took place as part of a joint service with over 300 participants in the festival hall. Mayor Erwin Heller handed over the new vehicle. Pastor Matthias Baral said a prayer of blessing dedicated to the firefighters and their new equipment. The fire service needs plan had previously recommended the purchase of a new vehicle, and a specially formed team was in charge of selecting the equipment.

The total costs for the new equipment vehicle amount to around 480,000 euros. Of this, 315,000 euros went to the vehicle itself and the body, while the remaining 165,000 euros were used for the loading items. The municipality will receive a state subsidy of 66,000 euros for this purchase, which will ease the financial pressure somewhat.

On June 28, 2025, the new vehicle will be exhibited at the weekly market from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., where citizens will have the opportunity to view the innovative tool up close.
