Altdorf increases daycare fees: What parents need to know now!

The municipality of Altdorf has taken a significant step towards redesigning its kindergarten finances. As the Stuttgarter Nachrichten without a contradiction has a new kindergarten usage statute and higher Fees decided. The aim of this measure is to create a socially just fee schedule and to increase cost recovery through parental contributions. The cost recovery degree of the three Altdorf kindergartens is only 10.8 percent.

The expenses for the childcare facilities in Altdorf amount to almost three million euros, while only 322,000 euros flow back through parental contributions. The new statute is intended to increase the cost recovery degree to 15 to 20 percent. Uniform fee rates and a uniform care time model are introduced, which leads to a standardization of childcare in the community.

new fees and opening times

From September 1st, the contributions increase: The amount for the first child increases from 156 to 167 euros. For parents whose children are looked after during the extended opening hours, an additional surcharge of 25 percent is added if the childcare period exceeds 30 hours per week. It is particularly noteworthy that the costs for the care of under-three-year-old children are cheaper due to a falling demand.

The childcare times are not firmly anchored in the statutes and can be flexibly adapted to the actual needs. This could be a valuable measure to meet the different needs of families.

increasing contributions in Gaggenau

Stadt Gaggenau , the fees for childcare in the districts of Freolsheim, Hörden and Oberweier are increasing by 7.5 percent. This increase also comes into force for the new kindergarten year and is a reaction to rising personnel costs and growing operating costs.

The grant requirement for day care centers in Gaggenau is expected to increase from 5 million euros in 2019 to over 8 million euros in 2024. Gaggenau currently looks after around 1,295 children between 0 and 6 years in a variety of 15 day care centers, with private and church providers also affected. There are efforts by the associations to achieve the cost recovery degree of 20 percent through parental contributions, which is not met with the new increases.

The Mayor of Gaggenau, Andreas Paul, also announced that it would discuss the kindergarten contributions in the new cultural and social committee about a more family-friendly setting. These discussions are planned for the kindergarten year 2025/2026.

Overall, developments in Altdorf and Gaggenau reflect the challenges with which many communities in Germany are confronted. The increasing financial needs for early childhood education forces the cities to increase parental contributions and develop new concepts in order to ensure the quality of the care and to keep the burden on families within the framework.
