Redesign in Winnenden: 9.7 million euros for safe streets!
The city of Winnenden has successfully completed the comprehensive redesign of its former B14 through-road. The project, which costs a total of 9.7 million euros, will be honored on June 28th with a ceremonial inauguration of the newly designed Waiblinger Straße, Ringstraße and southern Bahnhofsstraße. The aim of the measures is to make the city center more attractive, safer to traffic and more livable, as the Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports.
The implementation of the redesign is based on a significant financial contribution from the state of Baden-Württemberg, which has provided 4.2 million euros for this project from the Ministry of Transport. With the funding decision, investment costs of over 5 million euros also receive special support. The planning was carried out by the office of Karajan Ingenieure Beraten + Planen Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH from Stuttgart, while the construction work was carried out by the company Klöpfer GmbH & Co. KG from Winnenden, according to information from the city of Winnenden.
Extensive measures for improvement
As part of the project, numerous measures were taken to improve the infrastructure. This includes the renewal of the water pipes from the REWE intersection to Gerberstrasse as well as the renewal of the canal from Steinbeisweg to the Zipfelbach Bridge. In addition, the roadway was completely expanded, with special asphalt with surface treatment being used in the area of Ringstrasse to Gerberstrasse.
The line companies Syna (electricity), Deutsche Telekom and Netze BW, which were involved in the broadband expansion measures, also played an important role. During the entire construction period, there was a one-way system for traffic traveling into the city and various diversions in order to keep the disruption to residents and through traffic as low as possible.
Construction time and outlook
The work began in mid-July 2022, with implementation taking place in several phases over a period of approximately 2.5 years. In particular, bus traffic on line 332 was rerouted via Max-Eyth-Straße during the construction period, which required additional planning and adjustments. Temporary traffic lights were installed at the Waiblingerstrasse/Brückenstrasse junction to control traffic flow and increase safety.
Overall, this project shows how the coordinated efforts of city administration, engineers and construction companies can achieve a significant improvement in urban traffic areas. The initiative is a further step towards promoting a lively and safe urban environment in Winnenden.
