Bayer Leverkusen snaps up PSG talent Axel Tape!

On June 11, 2025, Bayer 04 Leverkusen announced a notable new signing: 17-year-old Axel Tape is moving from Paris St. Germain to the Bundesliga on a free transfer. The young French U-18 international signed a long-term contract until 2030, which is valid from his 18th birthday on August 10th. Bayer Leverkusen was able to beat competition from Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham Hotspur, who also showed great interest in the talent. Tape will immediately be included in the planning for the Bundesliga squad and seems to play a significant role in the future team.

Axel Tape is considered an extremely versatile defensive player. With a height of 1.80 meters and a weight of 75 kilograms, he can be used both in the defense center and in the defensive midfield. He played in six games in the Youth League this season, showing his flexibility by playing different positions including centre-back and rail player. His first experience with PSG's first team came in three appearances, including his debut in a cup game against FC Espaly in January.

Talents and potential

Simon Rolfes, the managing director of Bayer Leverkusen, sees the signing of Axel Tape as an important step in squad planning. Rolfes praises the young Frenchman's intelligence, athleticism and speed. Above all, the versatility of tape meets the expectations of the trainer and the sports management. One of the new signing's strengths is that he can be used as a left and right central defender as well as centrally in a three-man chain and as a right rail player.

Bayer Leverkusen is particularly proud to have signed Tape from PSG as he is the third player to move to Leverkusen from Paris; Moussa Diaby and Mitchel Bakker have previously followed suit. The fact that there is no transfer fee makes the transfer even more attractive: only training compensation has to be paid. Tape himself is fascinated by Leverkusen's style of play and sees the Bundesliga as an excellent development opportunity.

For Eintracht Frankfurt, who previously lost Jude Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund, the loss of Tape is another setback in the youth sector. The competition in German football remains tough, and it remains to be seen how the squad designs of the various teams will affect the coming season. Bayer Leverkusen could have taken a decisive step in the right direction by signing Axel Tape.
