In a few days, on Whit Monday, June 9, 2025, the 30th German Mill Day instead of. This special day offers visitors the opportunity to discover over 1,000 historic mills throughout Germany. A total of nine mills will open their doors in the Rems-Murr district this year, eight of which are located along the picturesque mill hiking trails in the Swabian Forest.
Mill Day is ceremoniously opened at the historic oil mill in the Swabian Forest. An ecumenical open-air service will take place here at several mills starting at 10 a.m., followed by the official opening at 11 a.m. The guests of honor include Mayor Michael Clauss, District Administrator Richard Sigel and the Swabian Forest Fairy Michelle Fuchs, who introduce the festivities with greetings.
Discovery tour through the mills
The mills in the Swabian Forest are open on this day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can take part in various guided tours, including the Meuschenmühle, the Menzlesmühle, the Brandhofer and the Michelauer Ölmühle. The Voggenbergmühle offers a special highlight with its “Glass Production”, where the conversion of grain into flour is clearly explained.
The mills also have a varied menu for families Children's participation program at the Meuschenmühle and demonstrations in the Vaihinghofer sawmill and at the Brandhofer oil mill. Here children can playfully immerse themselves in the world of mills.
