Important S-Bahn changes: Buses replace trains between Burgstall and Backnang!
The S-Bahn line S4 will be restricted from last Friday, October 31st, until next Friday, November 7th, 2025. Deutsche Bahn has decided to replace the trains between Burgstall and Backnang with buses. This is necessary in order to carry out vegetation work in the area of the Burgstall – Backnang railway line, which is intended to increase traffic safety. The trains only run between Stuttgart Schwabstraße and Burgstall.
The replacement buses will be used between Burgstall (Murr) train station and the central bus station in Backnang. There is also an additional stop in Erbstetten to improve connections in both directions. Deutsche Bahn recommends that passengers inform themselves about electronic timetable media before starting their journey in order to take possible changes in travel times into account.
Recommendations for passengers
The buses have longer journey times than the trains. Passengers should therefore allow more time and, if necessary, choose earlier connections. Real-time information is available on the Deutsche Bahn website or in the DB Navigator app.
It is not the first time that vegetation work has been carried out to ensure rail safety. Similar measures are also being implemented on other routes, such as the Tutzing-Kochel route, where the DB will begin work on January 7th. These include cutting back bushes and felling trees to create the necessary protective distances and promote the healthy development of vegetation. The DB has developed a comprehensive “overall vegetation management concept” that regulates the maintenance of the tracks and their surroundings.
Passengers and residents are asked to show understanding for the temporary restrictions. Despite modern work equipment, noise during work cannot be completely avoided. Further information on the vegetation work can be found in the “Vegetation Management” media package.
