Fireworks ban for the castle festival: The end of the Monrepos Open Air?

The Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, one of the oldest music festivals in German-speaking countries, is under an unfavorable star this year. On Saturday, July 19th, the Monrepos Open Air, a traditional format of the festival, will take place in its previous form for the last time. But the event, which has been celebrated for 30 years and attracts up to 8,000 visitors to the Monrepos domain every year, has to do without its usual fireworks display. Bietigheim newspaper reports that director Lucas Reuter regrets that the magnificent lighting effects cannot be part of the evening.

The decision to ban fireworks was made by the regional council, which was approved by Mayor Dr. Matthias Knecht took legal action against this decision. Knecht expresses how important the fireworks are for visitors and hopes for a high number of spectators, even without the traditional highlight. In order to make the evening festive, the organizers have announced that they will use alternative lighting effects and installations.

Musical program and artists

The Monrepos Open Air is presented as a large orchestral concert and includes works by important composers such as Johann Strauss, Alexander von Zemlinsky and Richard Strauss. Arias from popular operas such as “Die Fledermaus” and “Der Rosenkavalier” are also on the program. The soloists Anna Gabler and Norbert Ernst will perform together with the Divertimento Viennese orchestra and will delight the audience with their performances.

The Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2032, transforms the city into a center of culture every year. These festivals bring together various art forms, including music, dance, opera and visual arts. The program is accompanied annually by an invited artist who enriches the season with their works. For ticket buyers, information about prices can be found in the annual program and on the official website. Ludwigsburg.de also offers information about the opening times of the ticket office and how to travel by public transport.

For visitors interested in culture, taking part in the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival is a unique experience. Even if the Monrepos Open Air has to do without the spectacular fireworks this year, we can only hope that the musical performances and the alternative light show will make the evening unforgettable.
