DJK Gmünd loses dramatically at the start of the season against Ditzingen!
The DJK Gmünd started the new regional league season with an exciting game on October 7, 2025, but suffered a narrow 2:3 defeat against TSF Ditzingen. Despite a promising lead of two sets, which were won 25:20 and 25:23, the Gmünder women lost control of the game when Ditzingen made a change of tactics from the third set and won the game 25:18.
The start was promising: In the first set, the Gmünder women were able to catch up after Ditzingen initially led 10:5 and 19:16. In the second set, Gmünd benefited from her opponents' own mistakes. In the third set, however, the Ditzingen team managed to turn the tide and get the momentum on their side. They dominated in the fourth set, in which the teams fought an exciting duel until the score was 17:17. The Gmünder women had several match points, but in the end had to admit defeat 28:30.
Development of the club
The DJK Gmünd, whose volleyball department was founded by Manfred Klotz Bücher in 1965, has developed enormously over the years. At the beginning the men's teams dominated, but in 1966 the women's volleyball department was also founded. This has since then been successfully established and is playing in the regional league, state league and district league in the current 2025/26 season. The first women's team has been one of the top places in the regional league for many years.
The gymnastics and sports club currently has numerous youth teams and three women's teams, as well as seniors and everyone. The club's successful history is also clear from the successes of the former men's teams, including national players such as Simon Tischer, who was promoted to the second division with his team in 1974. The dissolution of the last men's team in 1999 meant that the women's teams were able to distinguish themselves even more.
Prospects for the coming season
The DJK Gmünd captain, Alisia Weber, emphasized after the game that the team had to work on exploiting their chances. After their first matchday, the Gmünder women are currently in eighth place in the table. Their next match will be next Saturday against TG Bad Waldsee in the Römersporthalle, which starts at 7 p.m. The invitation to all interested spectators to visit the hall and the training remains in place in order to experience the dynamics and team spirit of the Gmünder women up close.
