Young craftsmen inspire with new perspectives in the region!

The skilled trades are facing a change that brings with it both opportunities and challenges. The carpenter profession in particular is increasingly coming into focus as it combines both traditional crafts and modern building practices. Numerous young trainees in the Stuttgart region are trying to achieve this, as current reports show.

In this context, training as a carpenter played a crucial role for Lasse Seibert, 20 years old and from Aichtal. He is in his third year as a journeyman at Holz-Symbiose in Oberboihingen. Lasse developed an interest in woodworking early on, which was confirmed during an internship. His most valuable experience so far has been the knowledge he gained through various construction sites and activities such as roof trusses, wooden houses and the renovation of old buildings. These practical experiences are essential for the training, which usually lasts three years and consists of a dual combination of vocational school and training company, as highlighted on karrierebibel.

Diverse career opportunities

The carpenter profession offers a wide range of activities. The tasks include the manufacture and assembly of wooden structures, the cutting and processing of wood as well as the renovation and maintenance of wooden buildings. This is closely related to the requirements placed on future carpenters. Reliability, skill, care and physical fitness are fundamental qualities required to be successful in this craft. An intermediate school leaving certificate, but usually at least a secondary school leaving certificate, is considered important, with practical handling of wood and good performance in subjects such as mathematics and physics being additional plus points.

Another trainee, Niklas Staisch, 19 years old and from Neckartenzlingen, is training to become an electronics technician for energy and building technology in his third year of training at Riempp Industrieservice. Niklas emphasizes that his interest in electrical engineering often takes him to customers and construction sites. Here, too, there is a high rate of acceptance into the training company, which makes the training particularly attractive. He plans to train to become a master electrician and has gained experience in areas such as electrical installations and maintenance work.

Pay for carpenters is also a crucial factor. According to Career Bible, the average salary of a carpenter is around 3,450 euros gross per month, with starting salaries between 2,500 and 3,000 euros. After a few years of professional experience, you can expect to earn around 3,500 euros, and master carpenters can even earn 4,000 to 5,000 euros or more. The training allowance is staggered, with it being around 1,080 euros in the first year and 1,450 to 1,550 euros in the third year.

Career opportunities and personal motivation

The career opportunities in the industry are extremely good because there is a high demand for carpenters in Germany, which minimizes unemployment in this professional field. The possibility of self-employment and numerous further training opportunities, such as the master's examination or additional qualifications in wood technology, make this profession particularly interesting. In addition, the example of Janne Dietrich, 18, from Walddorfhäslach, shows the fascination for wood and the combination of precision craftsmanship and creative design in training to become a carpenter.

For many, training is not just a job, but also a matter of the heart. Carolin Aberle, 19 years old from Kirchheim, says that her interest in physical and manual work increased after a voluntary ecological year. She is driven by the joy of working together and seeing visible results. All trainees also emphasize the need to take on tasks independently, such as sawing materials, which creates a sign of personal responsibility.

Nowadays, the opportunities in skilled trades are diverse and future-proof. Through their determination and passion for their careers, young people show that they are ready to succeed in these often underestimated career fields.
