Nürtinger music store Wondra closes after 47 years - an end of an era!
Willy Wondra, a well-known face in the Nürtingen music scene, has announced that he will close his music shop at Europastraße 19 at the end of 2025. After 47 years of successful activity, the 74-year-old entrepreneur, who has been connected to music since childhood, is taking this step. Wondra began learning guitar at the age of nine and trained as a piano maker. In 1978 he opened his musical instrument shop near the Nürtinger Neckar Bridge, which slowly became an important point of contact for music lovers.
Over the years, Wondra has seen many changes in the music industry. His company grew and moved to its current location at Europastrasse 19 in 1986, where he reached peak times with five employees and eight music teachers. In the 1970s and 1980s he also founded a mobile music school that operated in a converted truck. Even if online trading represents a challenge for many specialist shops, including Wondra's store, the question of the further development of the music landscape remains exciting.
An ending with perspective
Wily Wondra looks back on a successful time, but he is still closing his business in the city center. The clearance sale runs until Christmas and plans for the future are already concrete. Wondra will run an instrument workshop at his home in Kirchheim-Nabern, while the music school he founded will continue to operate under new management.
Wondra particularly remembers an anecdote from the 1980s: On Christmas Eve, a customer urgently wanted to purchase a Hammond home organ, which illustrates the special connection between the area and the needs of the musicians. As Wondra points out, online retail has made life difficult for many businesses. In fact, a third of all piano and guitar dealers in Germany have had to close in the last ten years, underlining the seriousness of the situation, as Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.
Off to new shores
As Wondra prepares for the next phase of his life - including a planned RV tour with the aim of traveling to southern Italy again soon - he is leaving a lasting impact on the local music scene. His passion and commitment have influenced many musicians and will continue to exist through the music school under the direction of Sven Frey. Despite the challenges, Wondra is optimistic and looks forward to the future.
