Radiant talents: Enya Holsten shines in the district all-around competitions!

On June 3, 2025, the district athletics all-around competitions took place in Eltingen, in which over 400 participants from 35 clubs took part. In total, almost 700 launches were carried out. The organizational team, led by Stepan Malek, was able to put together an impressive event that was characterized by the block competition. This is a competition in which various disciplines are grouped together in a “block”, which makes the event particularly diverse and allows athletes to demonstrate their versatility.

Enya Holsten and Lara Huber from VfL Sindelfingen were particularly outstanding. Enya Holsten was honored as the best all-around athlete of the competition and dominated the long jump field with an impressive distance of 4.82 meters. At the same time, three athletes from VfL Sindelfingen exceeded the required DM target, which underlines the strength of the club. In the block competition, athletes are challenged in different disciplines, with the best performances having a decisive influence on the team ranking.

Rules and disciplines of the block competition

According to the event regulations (VAO) of the German Athletics Association (DLV), block competitions are carried out according to fixed rules. Competitors must compete in an event called a block, which includes multiple disciplines. Each age group has a specific composition that is structured according to gender and age. For example, certain disciplines are specified for U14 and U16 students that are uniform for all block competitions.

The basic disciplines in block competitions are sprint, hurdles and long jump, while the other two disciplines can vary depending on the focus. In the sprint/jump block, for example, these include a high jump and a throw such as a javelin or ball throw, while in the run block, a longer run of 800 to 2000 meters may also be required. An important detail is that each athlete has three attempts in the throws and long jump, which leaves room for improvement.

The event not only became a venue for outstanding performances, but also a forum for exciting competitions thanks to the support of committed athletes, coaches and a well-coordinated organizational team. The success of the event in Eltingen underlines the popularity and importance of the block competition in German athletics.
