New Islamic Cultural Center in Sindelfingen: A meeting place!

The Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Germany (IGBD) has taken a significant step in Sindelfingen to promote intercultural encounters and mutual respect. On June 3, 2025, the foundation stone for a new Islamic cultural center was laid. The ceremony took place at Max-Eyth-Straße 4 and attracted numerous guests from various religious communities as well as city society. Community chairman Mugdim Ahmagic emphasized that the center should provide a space for prayer, encounters, learning and cohesion. The planned area of the cultural center is around 2000 square meters and will be realized with an investment of 3.5 million euros. This initiative is seen as a long-term contribution to promoting intercultural dialogue in the region. As SZBZ reports, the IGBD's commitment also shows the desire to build bridges in society.

Christian-Islamic dialogue already has a long tradition in Sindelfingen. For almost 30 years, various religious communities have been working together to promote interreligious exchange. On July 2nd, a peace concert will take place in the Ulu Mosque, the largest Islamic place of worship in Sindelfingen. This concert is part of the Biennale in Sindelfingen, which focuses on diversity and initiates interreligious events. The Ulu Mosque is located in the mixed industrial area “Am Hirnach”, near Hornbach and Erospark, and attracts hundreds of people driving past every day. Nevertheless, only a few took the opportunity to enter the church, as Krzbb reports.

A center of intercultural exchange

The new cultural center will not only function as a place of worship, but also as an important place for learning and intercultural exchange. With the establishment of this center, the IGBD wants to set an example for respectful coexistence in an increasingly heterogeneous society. By bringing different ethnic and religious communities together, the aim is to promote a climate of tolerance and understanding.

The initiative behind the cultural center shows that interreligious discussions and offers in Sindelfingen are not just a sporadic measure. Rather, it is clear that the Christian-Islamic dialogue is part of a long-term vision for a peaceful and diverse society. These efforts help to break down prejudices and strengthen cohesion, which is particularly important today.
