Numerous cases of fraud: Elderly people in Renningen and Holzgerlingen affected!
In recent weeks there have been increasing reports of fraud in Renningen and Holzgerlingen, particularly affecting older people. These targeted attacks by card fraudsters are alarming because they are often perfectly orchestrated.
A recent example shows that a senior citizen in Renningen was contacted on Monday by an alleged bank employee. This claimed that there was a reserved debit and caused the man to hand over his bank card to an unknown person. Cleverly, however, the senior deliberately gave the wrong PIN, which did not bring the fraudsters the desired results. Nevertheless, the senior's bank later discovered that there had already been several unsuccessful withdrawal attempts. The person collecting the card is described as being around 1.90 to 2 meters tall, strong and well dressed.
Similar incidents in Holzgerlingen
A similar incident occurred in Holzgerlingen. Here, an elderly woman was contacted by a supposed bank employee who convinced her to hand over her debit card and PIN to secure her account. A slim man, around 30 years old, wearing dark clothing and a face mask then picked up the card and withdrew a four-digit amount from an ATM. In both cases, the criminal investigation department at the Ludwigsburg police headquarters has started investigations and is urgently looking for witnesses.
The police warn all citizens, especially older people, about such scams and call for vigilance. The aim of the fraudsters is to use stolen debit cards for large withdrawals, which seriously endangers the victims' financial security.
Prevention and emergency hotlines
The police recommend taking immediate action if your card is lost. This can be done by blocking the cards via the blocking emergency number 116 116, which has been available since July 1, 2005. The emergency call enables stolen or lost cards to be blocked nationwide in order to prevent further financial damage.
In addition, it is advisable to notify the bank holding the account immediately. There are specific phone numbers for credit cards, which vary depending on the provider:
- MasterCard (Deutschland): 0800 071 3542
- Visa (Deutschland): 0800 811 8440
- American Express: +49 69 97 97 1000
- Diners Club: +49 69 900 150 135 oder 136
The services are free from Germany, although the costs may vary from abroad. Blocking cards immediately is essential to avoid giving fraudsters a chance, as was the case in the current incidents. The police and the Federal Ministry of the Interior strongly emphasize the importance of these measures to protect consumers.
By increasing vigilance and taking the right action in an emergency, victims of card fraud can be significantly protected. It is important to find out about such scams and the corresponding protective measures, as polizei-beratung.de strongly recommends.
