On Monday afternoon there was an accident between two trucks on the A3 between Altdorf and Oberölsbach. At 1:15 p.m. a truck stopped on the hard shoulder due to a sudden tire burst. Another truck, which became aware of the parked vehicle too late, hit the broken down truck. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident. The right lane of the motorway was closed for the duration of the rescue work, but traffic was able to flow past the accident site, as NN.de reports.
The highway maintenance department and the Feucht traffic police were on duty from 4:15 p.m. A towing service supported the rescue work, which is still ongoing. Thanks to quick measures, the broken down truck was repaired so that the driver could continue his journey. The amount of property damage remains unknown at this time.
Incident with further consequences
A similar incident occurred recently when a truck overturned on the A3 near Nuremberg. This accident happened shortly before the Altdorf/Burgthann junction in the direction of Passau. Here too, the driver escaped with minor injuries and was able to climb out of his vehicle on his own. The truck was loaded with around 20 tons of floor coverings, which fell onto the road when it overturned. The truck's tank was also damaged, causing diesel to leak across all lanes. The clean-up work lasted into the night and was only completed at 1 a.m. on Thursday, after the road was closed for several hours. According to Nordbayern.de, the material damage in this case was around 60,000 euros.
The driver's inattention was determined to be the cause of the accident. These two incidents shed light on road safety, an issue that continues to come into focus.
