Unemployment in the Nuremberg region: Negative trend continues!

The current labor market figures from the Nuremberg region show a worrying development. According to the latest reports from the Federal Employment Agency, the unemployment rate remained at 2.9 percent in May, unchanged compared to the previous month. However, this stability hides a critical trend, as the rate was still 2.6 percent in May 2024. Overall, the signs on the labor market are not very encouraging.

In May, 2,830 people in the Nuremberg region were registered as unemployed, which represents an increase of 15 people compared to April and 263 more than in the same month last year. This figure indicates an increasing challenge in the region. In addition, the number of job vacancies fell by 14 percent in May compared to the previous month, while there was a year-on-year decline of 21.6 percent. This development could endanger economic stability in the Nuremberg region.

Declining willingness to hire

A striking signal of the worrying situation on the labor market is the declining willingness of companies in the region to hire people. The employment agency highlights that companies are less willing to hire new employees, which could have a negative impact on the future development of the labor market.

In comparison, the unemployment rate in the neighboring district of Erlangen-Höchstadt is 3.0 percent. Although this number is 0.1 percent higher than in the Nuremberg region, it is also below the values of the winter months, when the rate there was 3.1 percent.
